You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup

-exhausted-teacher-

I’ll be the first to admit it—I’m not always great at practicing what I preach.

There are times when I pour everything into my work, running on fumes and forgetting to prioritize myself. I get caught up in deadlines, commitments, and trying to be everything to every

One day, not too long ago, I found myself sitting at my desk at 8 p.m., staring at a long to-do list, completely drained. I thought, How did I get here? I teach others about happiness and well-being—why am I not practicing it myself?

In that moment, I realized I had let myself slip into the trap so many of us fall into, especially educators and school leaders like you. We care so much about others—our students, our colleagues, our families—that we forget to care for ourselves.

Here’s the truth I want to share with you: Your well-being matters.

It’s not selfish to take time for yourself—it’s essential. When you’re at your best, you’re better for everyone around you.

If this resonates with you, I want to offer you a simple tool to help you start prioritizing yourself. It’s called the “Non-Negotiable 15.”

The Non-Negotiable 15

Every day, carve out 15 minutes that are just for you. Use this time to do something that restores you—read a book, go for a walk, sit quietly with your thoughts, journal, or enjoy a cup of coffee without distractions.

At first, it might feel strange, even a little selfish. But I promise those 15 minutes can be life-changing.

Here Are a Few Ways to Create 15 Minutes in Your Day:

  • Wake Up 15 Minutes Earlier: Use the quiet morning to read, meditate, or sip your coffee in peace.
  • Swap Evening Responsibilities: Trade bedtime duties with your partner and use that time for yourself.
  • Turn Off Social Media: Put your phone away and spend that time on something meaningful.
  • Say “No” to One Thing: Let go of a task that doesn’t need to be done today.
  • Ask for Help: Delegate a chore to a family member or colleague.
  • Use Your Commute: Turn off the noise and reflect or listen to something uplifting.

These small shifts can make a big difference in your energy and mindset.

Our courses are self-paced and flexible, so they fit into even the busiest schedules. Think of them as a way to nurture yourself while learning strategies that will ripple out to your students and colleagues. And you get access for 9 months to the courses!
