Topic Description

While research reveals that only 35% of students are reading proficiently, it also tells us that 95% of student can learn to read! It is critical for educators to evaluate reading instruction and find ways to support reading proficiency.

The Science of Reading PD Training is a comprehensive program designed to provide educators with a deep understanding of the foundational principles and decades of research behind effective reading instruction and how the human brain learns to read. This training explores the latest scientific findings related to developmental psychology, educational psychology, cognitive science, and cognitive neuroscience on reading, one of the most complex human behaviors, and its biological (neural, genetic) bases.

Participants in this training will gain insights into the cognitive processes involved in reading and learn evidence-based strategies to support students in becoming proficient readers. The training covers topics such as the structure of language, the role of phonics instruction, effective reading assessment practices, and the importance of explicit and systematic instruction in the classroom.

Through a combination of interactive presentations, hands-on activities, and practical discussions, educators will enhance their instructional toolbox with research-based techniques to improve reading outcomes for all students. Participants will leave this training equipped with the knowledge and resources to implement evidence-based practices and make meaningful instructional decisions to support the development of strong readers.
