A Happiness Book Recommendation! πŸ“˜

happy woman

I love learning. Maybe that’s the teacher in me, and I bet you can relate, too!

Whenever I’m reading a book (personal growth is my favorite genre 🀣), my mind is constantly reeling with new ways to apply concepts and ideas that I’m learning to my own life or to teach others.

Last month, I read Build the Life You Want: The Art and Science of Getting Happier by Arthur C. Brooks and my gal, Oprah Winfrey.

(Even though I am a Happiness Coach who speaks on stages to teachers and professionals all over the country about the science of happiness, I still yearn to know more about it. It’s truly my favorite subject.)

Book cover.

Anyway… I was reading this book and couldn’t help but list 10 of my favorite takeaways.

I want to share them with you in hopes you’ll be as excited about applying them as I am! (Plus, who doesn’t love a good New Year, New Me habit challenge?!)

😊 Happiness is not a destination or a feeling you finally arrive to; it’s a direction.

πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ³ We are all mixtures of both happy and unhappy and can be both at the same time. But we can all get happier!

πŸ›‘ We must stop believing our individual problems are the reasons we haven’t
achieved happiness. No positive circumstance can give us the bliss we seek, and
no negative circumstance can make getting happier impossible.

🚣🏽 The macronutrients of happiness are enjoyment, satisfaction, and purpose.

πŸ” “Care about other people’s approval and you will be their prisoner.” – Lao Tzu (quoted in the book)

πŸ”— “A teacher is not the one who knows everything; it’s the one who shares what they’ve learned.” -Oprah

❓A question to ask yourself is, “What does living a life well mean to you?” (Not someone else’s model, but yours).

πŸ‹πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ The best happiness teachers are the ones who have had to work to gain the knowledge they offer.

πŸ™ˆ Don’t hide your struggles. Use them to help others understand that they are not alone, and that getting happier is possible. Your pain gives you credibility and your progress makes you an inspiration. Sharing that with others increases progress, making others the perfect win-win.

πŸ₯° Teaching happiness is the best strategy for getting happier as time goes on.
Cheers to 2024, knowing that we can become the captain of our own happiness
and that unhappiness is nothing to shy away from.

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE (🩷🩷🩷) to hear from you!

What is something you are working on (inside or outside of the classroom) in 2024?
