A Lesson in Purpose… from the Grocery Line

-Purpose-

As a new school year kicks off, I just want to take a moment to cheer you on. Whether you’re an educator heading back to the classroom, a parent juggling new routines, or someone simply soaking in the back-to-school energy that seems to ripple through August, this season often feels like a fresh start. And I’m here for it.

On a similar note, let’s talk about happiness in the workplace.

The other day, I ran into my old classmate Becky Craig while she was bagging up my turkey at Noble’s IGA—and just like always, she lit up the whole room with her big, beaming smile as she said:

“I love my job. It’s so fun. I’m going to work here forever, girlfriend.”

And you know what? She meant it.

Becky reminded me of something I teach in my Remember Your Why & Ignite Your Purpose keynote:

Your purpose isn’t your title or your paycheck. It’s not what you do—it’s how you do it and why you show up.

Becky’s purpose? It’s lifting people up. It’s spreading joy. It’s making the checkout line feel like the best part of someone’s day.

Purpose lives in the small moments—in how we treat others, the energy we bring, and the meaning we create in the everyday.

That’s the kind of message I love sharing with educators, conference attendees, corporate teams, and leaders across every industry. Because when people reconnect to their why, it reignites everything—from performance to passion to purpose.

If your school, district, or organization is planning an event and looking to inspire and re-energize your people, I’d love to bring this keynote to your community.

And in the meantime, let’s all channel a little more Becky Craig into our days. Because happiness at work? It’s contagious. And purpose-filled living? That’s where the magic happens.

I’m rooting for you, my friend!
