We’ve all heard the buzzword self-care. From taking bubble baths to squeezing in a few moments of meditation—it’s everywhere. But what if I told you that these quick fixes aren’t really solving the problem?
With increasing pressures at work and home, many of us are burning out faster than ever. And yet, we’re told that self-care—like rubbing lavender oil on our wrists or taking a few deep breaths—will solve it all. Spoiler alert: it won’t.
The truth is, these practices make us feel better momentarily, but they don’t address the real challenges we’re facing, especially as educators. Self-care has become another “to-do” on a never-ending list, making us feel even more behind.
But there’s another way—a way to actually take care of yourself. In Teach Happy: Small Steps to Big Joy, I call it Radical Wellness: The Self-Care Nobody’s Talking About. I even have a keynote about this topic. Because people are sick and tired of being told to practice Self-Care!
In the next few emails, I’ll explain Radical Wellness and show you how you can create more time for yourself without guilt. Stay tuned.
Take care (really).
